I always stand amazed at the amazing healing power of music.
Have you ever noticed how when you feel stressed out by a million thoughts going through your mind and you feel like you are going to blow, how listening to music just seems to calm everything in and around you?
It is like your mind gets to let go of whatever was happening a moment ago. Almost as if the music just creates a pause. Your heart rate goes down; you take a moment and take a deep breath. Something in you just reminds you, it is going to be OK.
I have always wondered how music has this effect on us. I have come to the conclusion that music has the amazing ability to remind us of our own song, the melody INSIDE us. And it is within the reminder of whom we are that we are able to reconnect with our own POWER.
We can so easily get caught up in the noise of this world. Feel overwhelmed by the reality in which we find ourselves at times.
So how do I do this?
Allow yourself a moment of silence. I know when you feel overwhelmed; being pressed for answers the last thing that comes to you naturally is to be still.
But when we get to the silent moments between our thoughts we get to the entrance, the doorway that leads us to the music of our SOUL.
A busy, occupied mind allows no space for silence. If we don’t become silent our mind stays focused on the chaos on the outside. And we come to believe that it’s all that there is.
So how do I find the melody of my SOUL?
I believe the first and most important step is the CHOICE to create alone time for ourselves.
Secondly we need to let go of the idea/belief that to be silent is difficult or uncomfortable. Silence is POWERFUL. It is where we discover who we are. Get to understand ourselves. Find the infinite wisdom that resides within all of us.
Lastly we get to the practical part. Find a space where you feel comfortable. Whether it is a room in your house, outside, where ever – it really does not matter. The only condition is COMFORT.
Now that you find your spot it is time to sit down and just relax. Get into a state of ‘easiness’ and get comfortable with sitting with your own silence. Don’t get despondent if it takes a while to get comfortable with just being.
If breaking it down to just sitting with yourself for 10 minutes a day feels more manageable then do exactly that. You know yourself best. Allow yourself to move pass the weirdness of ‘nothing’.
Soon you will start to feel the benefits of just being – creating a PAUSE. And within the pause, you will start to separate yourself from you thoughts and hear the notes in between your thoughts. And as you practice hearing the notes play one after another you will get to hear the beautiful MELODY OF YOUR SOUL.
